Each recipe has been rigorously evaluated by the Healthy Recipe Criteria to meet the needs of individuals and families experiencing food insecurity, taking into consideration nutritional needs.
In this section, Registered Dietitians can access the top ten tools and resources that showcase the role of food banks in America, Feeding America nutrition initiatives and research.
Today, 67% of the food the Feeding America network distributes annually is classified as Foods to Encourage. This includes more than 800 million pounds of produce.
Currently, close to 80% of food banks provide nutrition education that empowers clients to choose, prepare and consume healthful foods.
Collectively, the Feeding America network serves more than 37 million people, including 14 million children and 3 million seniors in all 50 states, DC and Puerto Rico.
More than 50 million people in the U.S. are food insecure, meaning they live at risk of hunger.

The Great American Milk Drive
Milk is one of the most nutritious items requested by food bank clients, although it is rarely donated. The Great American Milk Drive is a national campaign to secure highly desired gallons of nutrient-rich milk for millions of hungry families, made possible by the nation’s milk farmers and dairy farmers.
The Healthy Food Bank Hub is a project and platform developed in partnership with Feeding America and network food banks, Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and National Dairy Council®. The Hub provides a platform of evaluated tools and resources, showcases existing best practices and nutrition initiatives, and engages health and nutrition professionals to help fight hunger while promoting health.
